Who Are We?
The Teach for Hong Kong Foundation (THK) was founded with the goal of improving the education standards in Hong Kong through serving the teaching community.
Say you are a secondary school teacher in Hong Kong. You are a good teacher who works at school until 7pm every day, leaving you little time with you kids and to be a good parent. You sometimes worry about your long-term job security because birth rates in Hong Kong have been dropping. You believe there is a need to continually upgrade your teaching skills. You always want to travel aboard to broaden your horizons, but have little money to spare for such overseas trips. You try hard to get adapted to the NSS curriculum of the subjects you teach. With the NSS curriculum now taking the scene, you wonder how you could upgrade yourself to truly become a millennium teacher in your millennium school.
THK offers a study-trip grant that provides current teachers with the means to partake in study-trips, community work, or other further education opportunities that they may not otherwise have. Such a scheme not only promotes the ideal of life-long learning, but also improves the quality of teachers through enhancing their knowledge base and providing them with the opportunity to pursue their passion as well as reduce stress.
Through such programs, THK hopes to generate synergy with the education community and within Hong Kong society dedicated towards the improvement of teaching standards. We work towards the goal of equipping our teachers with the tools to produce students who can compete in a globalized and rapidly changing world.
