6 Makeup Mistakes That Ruin Your Whole Look

Modern women today use makeup as a way to enhance their beauty and portray a healthy-looking skin since makeup helps to lessen all the spots which otherwise would be visible. This is why it’s very important to understand the techniques on how you to achieve the right makeup look.

Makeup can be really tricky to master. However, it’s also a form of art and it’s the same with other forms of artistic expression where you can apply the saying “practice makes perfect” because it does need a lot of practice. You have to make several mistakes to learn from in order to achieve that perfect face!

Here are the 10 most common makeup mistakes that ruin your look and damage your skin on a daily basis.

MISTAKE #1: You’re not blending your makeup the right way

Do you cringe every time you see other women who forgot to blend below the jawline? It’s actually a bad habit by some women which creates this weird look since the difference is pretty obvious and not flattering at all.

The most effective way to fix this type of problem is to always blend your makeup under the jawline so that it doesn’t form a noticeable line. So either you’re using a liquid or powder foundation, you should apply some of it on the lower parts of your face down to the middle of your neck.

Also, don’t forget to test several shades on your jawline to have a more particular example of what each shade looks on you. You may also ask for a counter sample and try it with a clean brush on your lips.

MISTAKE #2: You’re not changing your foundation during winter and summer

The shade of your foundation you’re using should also change, the similar way you change your clothing as the weather changes. There are 99% of people who have a complexion of 1 to 4 tones darker during the summer due to exposure to the sun.

The foundation that you’ve been using during the winter will just look very light if used during the summer. You may want to change the shade in order for the foundation to match your natural skin tone and not draw any uncomfortable attention to your face for all the wrong reasons.

MISTAKE #3: You’re storing your makeup product in wrong places

Do you find it weird how your mother keeps her lipstick in the fridge? The real reason behind this is that there are plenty of beauty products that have natural oils and waxes that can be damaged when exposed visible to high temperatures, particularly during the summer.

You can make some space in your fridge where you can store your eye cream, perfumes, moisturizers, facial masks, lipsticks, eyeliners, and nail polishes. When you do this, the pigmentation won’t be cakey later on and they maintain their freshness every time you’re going to use them.

MISTAKE #4: You’re trying hard to contour

Remember when so many women have followed Kim Kardashian’s way of contouring by watching limitless tutorials on Youtube? Maybe you’ve already watched countless contour tutorial videos and you can’t still end up with a nice and perfect contoured face.

Basically, there are 4 easy steps when it comes to contouring: apply your basic foundation and a lighter tone on your forehead, cheekbones, nose, and jawline. And if you properly do it, all you have to do is to blend well and the result will amaze you. But if you are having doubts about your techniques then you might just want to avoid contouring. Your makeup will still look amazing without all that contour.

MISTAKE #5: You’re filling in your brows too much

Look at your brows in the mirror, do they look like hair? Do they have the same exact colour as your natural hair? This type of mistake can make your brows and face look too cruel altogether. What you can do is by using a thin, angled brush so the hair of your brows would look as natural as possible. You can also mix different powder shades when filling in so you can give your brows the colour that suits them best and blends flawlessly with your complexion.

MISTAKE #6: You’re applying makeup on dull and dry skin

It’s useless having that high-end foundation of yours if you’re just going to apply it on dry skin. To avoid having dry skin, you may try to exfoliate once a week and apply a great moisturizer afterwards.

It would be nice if you carry a toner in your bag if you want a refreshed makeup look. Also, you need to know that dry skin doesn’t cooperate well with powder makeup, you may want to stick to cream products or even ask a professional to give you advice. You may want to use a lip scrub or to exfoliate your lips or wear a lip primer right before you apply your lipstick.
