Anonymous blogging also has some advantages and disadvantages. This article will share some advantages and disadvantages of writing anonymous blogs, so that you can make an informed decision on how you want to blog, anonymously or with your name.

Let’s first jump into all the advantages of writing anonymous blogs.

  1. Be Whoever You Want to Be: When you write anonymous blogs, there is no fear of being judged. You can write about any topic and share your opinions about any topic. Since you are anonymous, no one can hate target you or your loved ones, personally. You can be harsh, sensitive, or comedic about anything to everything on your blog. You would not be required to sugar coat things, or as we call it having a customer-specific voice.
  2. Freedom to Stay Anonymous: Most people prefer to write anonymous blogs are those people who are not allowed to share their work-related content with anyone. For example, if you work in a financial field, there are several restrictions on what you can share with people in your life. But, if you are an anonymous blogger, you can some details (not all) with your audience. Anonymity helps you stay legally in your contract, as your name will not be disclosed, and people will benefit from the information that you provide them. However, please be mindful of what you share. Do not over share or share confidential information.
  3. Introvert Heaven: Being able to share anonymous blogs is one of the dreams come true for introverted writers. If you are a shy person, introvert, or just someone who does not want to socialize much, writing anonymous blogs are your way out. This way you will have a control over your interaction with people online. Anonymous blogs are best way to test people’s reaction to your content.
  4. Confidence Boost: If you are new to writing anonymous blogs and are not sure how your audience will react to your content, anonymous blogging is a good way to start. Anonymous blogs help you to test your audience and their reactions before you feel confident to reveal your name. It also provides you protection against all the hateful and nasty comments and reactions. Similar to above stated advantage, test your audience to be confident about your content. Most content creators who are new to a niche, try their audience, gain experience and once they are confident, they choose if want to stay anonymous or reveal your identity.

Now, that we have all the advantages listed out, let’s explore some disadvantages as well.

  1. No Spotlight: Being an anonymous blogger, you get no spotlight or appreciation for your work, as you cannot claim it. It is not same to writing a blog with your name on it. You would not be recognized for your efforts. It will stay anonymous just like your anonymous blog. You cannot even ask your friends and family to provide you that initial boost and connections. Nor you can post the blog on your personal social media handles. Your interaction with your audience is also less compared to blogging with your name. People want to connect with the blogger, they want to resonate with you to feel your content, which is not the available in anonymous blogging.
  2. Double Checking: Being an anonymous blogger is a huge commitment that you need to make. While you post anything, you must double check that everything you have provided in your blog does not reveal information about you. Posting a picture with a street sign near your home or even the exterior of your home can be traced back to you through various searches. People are smart enough to figure out where a certain picture is taken. It is a must to protect your identity along with your loved ones. You need to stay extra alert about these things.

Final Verdict?

The choice of being an anonymous blogger lies with you and the type of work you want to do. As we have mentioned before, if you are in an industry where is it not advisable to reveal your name, stay anonymous. But if you are in it for a long run, it will be advisable to blog with your identity. So, make your choices wisely when you are thinking about writing anonymous blogs.
